Paper Heart Valentine Tree

Make this Paper Heart Valentine Tree in 15 minutes to add some fun patterns to your Valentine decor. This DIY project is a simple and quick one that you can finish it in the time it takes you (or your kiddos) to watch a show on tv.

A few months ago we collected some dried branches at the local school. We used some for a project in November and I've had these leftover in the garage since. I was thinking about another Valentine project I could do and decided to make this tree decorated with paper hearts. I like that I was able to use multiple designs of scrapbook paper for this project, and how the different patterns look with one another.

Supplies Used
Vase
Dried branches
Scrapbook paper (Hobby Lobby has a great selection of single sheets and paper packs)
Ribbon (I buy Offray ribbon at Jo-Ann's)
Baker's Twine
Single hole punch
Cricut Explore
Optional - Heart Craft Punch if you don't have a Cricut machine
Floral foam

I was so excited to pull out my Cricut again to make this project. It makes paper cutting project so easy and quick, plus I don't get a sore wrist from pushing down on a craft punch. My model is the Cricut Explore, which is an older model from 2 years ago. They now have the Cricut Explore One and the Cricut Air.


Directions
Cut a length of ribbon that will go around your vase, tie around vase and make a bow. Arrange the dried branches in the vase.

If you own a Cricut machine, you can easily use Cricut Design Space to design a page with hearts (the hearts are included in the free shapes). The hearts I used are 2 1/2-inch wide at the largest part.

Place your chosen scrapbook paper onto the mat, load, and cut. Remove the hearts and repeat with however many papers you would like to use. I cut 15 hearts, but because of the number of branches I only used 8 of the hearts. I used 4 different patterns of paper - some regular paper and some card stock.

Use your single hole punch to make a hole in the top center of the heart. Cut 6-inch lengths of bakers twine (I used red and pink for this project) and thread through the hole in the heart. Finish by tying a knot at the end.

Arrange the hearts on the branches. This is much easier to do after the branches are in the vase because the branches move around a bit when arranging them. To make sure they don't move around at all, you can place a small piece of florist foam in the bottom of your vase. I didn't use it and I haven't had any problems at all with them shifting since I finished arranging them.

And that's it! Your project is complete! You now have a cute new Valentine piece to add to your decor.

If you would like to write love notes on the hearts before you hang them, use a fine tip pen or gel pen.
