Fresh fruits and vegetables are one of my favorite parts of spring and summer. At our house we love corn on the cob. Especially the early ears that are so sweet and full of flavor. For years I've been making corn on the cob on the stove, boiling it in water, but it always seemed a bit soft and the flavor was cooked out. This year I decided to try grilling it on our gas grill. Wow! It was amazing. Perfectly done, still crisp and flavorful. The butter and seasonings cook with the corn and it really enhances the flavor.
Grilled corn on the cob is our favorite side dish at this time of year. We seems to grill a lot more and this corn is a wonderful side dish with burgers, pork chops, steaks, or BBQ chicken. Add a tasty Rainbow Fruit Salad and the meal is complete!
Let's get to the recipe so you can make your own delicious grilled corn on the cob!
Ingredients
Ears of corn
Pepper
Sea Salt
Butter
Aluminum foil
Most of the time I buy fresh corn on the cob still in their nice green sleeves. Our local stores didn't have a very good selection of fresh corn last week, so I bought this pack at Costco and they were great. The stores now have a better crop of corn so I will be buying it that way until the local produce stands have fresh corn.
- Shuck your corn and make sure to remove the silk. This is a great time to trim the top and bottom of the corn to make them flat so it's easy to add the corn holders after cooking.
- Lay out pieces of aluminum foil large enough to wrap the corn tightly so none of the moisture escapes.
- Butter the corn to your liking.
- Season with the salt and pepper.
- Wrap the corn up in the aluminum foil. I place the extra length together and fold it down over and over so it is sealed tightly. I carefully roll the ends of the foil, making sure that the foil doesn't tear.
- Heat the grill to medium and place the wrapped corn onto the grill. Cook for about 20 minutes - depending on size of ear of corn. Turn the corn every 4-5 minutes so it doesn't burn on one side.
- Remove the corn from the grill, unwrap from the foil, add the corn holders, and serve!
This corn is wonderful and there will be happy eating noises around the table. It is a perfect side dish for your neighborhood BBQ, a weeknight dinner, or when you have friends over. What is your favorite way to make corn on the cob?
Hmmm, this looks delicious! I love having cooked corn on the cob in the fridge. I sliced the kernels and toss them in our rice or salad!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea Suzette! We have an extra ear in the fridge right now and I didn't know what to do with it. I'm going to make a quinoa salad for tomorrow that it would be perfect for!
DeleteGood luck and let me know how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteI still have not mastered grilled corn! I usually just throw it at my husband and back away ;) Thank you for the tips! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWell, I have to admit that I made it myself the first time, but now I hand it over to my husband. =) Thanks for stopping by Colleen.
DeleteEveryone thinks I am nuts when I put corn in foil before I grill it. I am glad I am not the only one who knows that it's the BEST way to do it. Keeps the corn nice and buttery soft.
ReplyDeleteExactly! The corn is buttery and it keeps the moisture in so it steams it. I can't imagine making it any other way now. =)
Deletemmmm! Now I want corn. I love corn on the grill! I soak the whole thing in water for an hour, peel back the husk, add herbs and salt, then close it back up. Grill for 10 minutes with the cover closed to warm up the kernels and ta da! It makes guests think I've done something spectacular.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that sounds fantastic! Now I've got to try it. Thankfully my husband and dad both love corn on the cob....so that's part of Father's Day dinner this weekend!

ReplyDeleteThis was delicious. I have been wanting grilled corn for so long and this recipe was nice and simple. My husband even agreed to give it a go even though he has always boiled his corn on the cob in sugar water. He liked this just as much.
